Dread the Dream

(Dread the Dream, from Fearless Moral Inventory, words and music by Juliet A. Wright, copyright 2010, all rights reserved)  Dread the Dream

I dread the dream

You know it’s you

On the kitchen counter

What you shouldn’t do

Your curiosity

Go the best of me

I know it wasn’t right

Your little fantasy

I dread the dream

You know the one

Of you and me

Your idea of fun

You chased me around your stage

Till I come of age

Said you’d have my job

If I didn’t engage

Now I’m free of you

No more struggles or useless tries

Free of you

No more secrecy or lies

Free of you

But still dreams of you

Get out of my dreams

Dream

Why does the road keep turning

Dream

Seems like it’s out of control

Dream

What am I supposed to be learning

Dream

What is my role

I dread the dream

Your anger reigns

It’s all anxiety

Nobody gains

You’re never satisfied

With what you’ve got

Or anybody else

And it’s got to stop

I dread the dream

The one of you

You always are with her

You loved her true

But I run after you

Like I always do

I never once have dreamed

You love me too.

Now I’m

Free of you

There’s something to say

When the dream is reality

Free of you

My dreams can’t even bring you back.

Free of you

But still dreams of  you

Get out of my dreams

Dream

Why does the road keep turning

Dream

Seems like it’s out of control

Dream

What am I supposed to be learning

Dream

What is my role

I don’t want this dream anymore

God please take it away

I can’t stand to want anymore

And be alone at the break of day

If the dream is the same as reality

I’m ready to give it up

I’ll give my love unto the Lord

For he fills my cup

So get out of my dreams

I dread the dream

The one of  you

You’re sad and miss me too

What am I to do

In the morning when I wake

To my chagrin

I am still alone

You never came in

But now I’m free of you

No more struggles or useless tries

Free of you

No more secrecy or lies

Free of you

But still there’s dreams of you

Get out of my dreams
